Thermo Syphon Filter is a oil preservation system fitted on transformer. The principle of working of a thermo syphon filter is simple. During heating of transformer the oil also gets heated. Flow of cold oil towards high temperature region takes place. During this flow the oil enters the thermo syphon filter from bottom and rises above passing through the moisture absorbing agent i.e. Activated Alumina and gets relieved of its moisture.
Activated Alumina is aluminium oxide in the form of very porous spheres that are literally tunneled at the microscopic level. Activated Alumina has high crush resistance, high porosity and very stable chemical and physical values. Activated Alumina is a inert chemical and is inert to transformer oil. It can absorb 25% of moisture to its weight.
